twenty one pilots "Tear In My Heart"

I know there's probably something else I should blog about, but right now, I choose to blog on the new twenty one pilots music video just released for their new song, "Tear In My Heart", which you can find right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nky4me4NP70 I have decided to do this because I found a great deal of insight through it and I wanted you all to share in that.

This music video has a very interesting narrative, because unlike many of the music videos we watch in Intro to DMA, it features the band as a prominent part of the video, rather than just background to the events of the video.

The story of the song and music video revolves around singer Tyler Joseph and his relatively new relationship with a girl named Jenna. Throughout the beginning of the video, we see Tyler performing and looking at various people in the area. They are obviously in a foreign country, and each person he sees has their face distorted, signifying his inability to understand or empathize with them, or even perhaps his fear of them.

Until she shows up. When he glances at her, her face does not become distorted, and this is significant because it shows us that she is different to him than most other people. As the music video progresses, we see her battling him, which is a metaphor for the arguments and trouble relationships can sometimes cause. Yet, we see that it is all worth it in the end because he has never connected this way before.
