My final project experience was interesting. I found we had to compromise a lot - which was frustrating at points. Most of it was filmed in the commuter lounge so there are random vending machines in the back which seemed odd to me with some lines. Two people having a dance party in front of vending machines?
We had the first intro: that one was fun but difficult at times. There were lights and stones and plants in the way of us running backwards (both of us in flip-flops) so we had to practice a few times.
"Can't see these strings" was fun because my partner got to run around me with a ball of yarn as I stood, getting tangled. Getting out of it was an adventure, too.
"There's no flair" was something that we compromised on. Or rather, he hated my idea so I gave in. The day we were able to get together and discuss ideas, he was absent and so I told him my ideas and he liked them at the time. So it was frustrating that he wanted to change them. But in the end, I think this was the better route.
"If I left me on my own" was great: I was sad just filming it. It was almost tear-jerking; complete silence, darkness, sitting beside a vending machine in a corner all by himself.
"I'll be the smoothest dancer" was fun because we got to dance. A lot.
"Someday I'll know" had the most re-takes and compromise. The original idea was to have one person thump another in the head with a dictionary as if the person was absorbing information that way. So I was doing that to him - and then he wanted to act like I was beating him to death with it. And then we switched places. And then it wasn't just hitting the head, it was taking the book and reading it -which was different from absorbing it. So that became really confusing at times. We spent most of the time we had working this one section. But we got it and it looks good.
All and all, I enjoyed the experience. There were some frustrations but I think the collaborations all worked out in the end.
I was a little disappointed that it didn't show at the showcase, though.

Super Hero in the Making
The idea behind my instagram project was that my stuffed Baymax and I switched places for a day - he went to classes and took tests and I became a superhero for the day. But the thing is, where Baymax excelled in everything he did as we was me, I was a REALLY BAD superhero. There were a couple of short videos that wouldn't post so the story seems kind of incomplete. None of the pictures seemed favored over the others as there was no reaction to any of them on Instagram. Granted, I have about two followers.
This is Baymax waking up as me. He's ready to start the day. He woke up right on time and is ready to take an exam for me.
My first act of saving the world was to "save" this ice cream from melting (the mission was successful). I'm being selfish rather than selfless as I'd rather eat ice cream than actually do my job.

Me still trying to decide what my super suit should look like. I'm looking at all of the inspiration I can find but still coming up with nothing. The day is wasting away....

Time is still passing by and I'm just now getting to creating my super suit. For shame.
While I'm trying to figure out my alias, Baymax is in Lit learning about persona. He proceeds to tell the class about his persona and how they can find the persona of the poem they were studying.
Tape and tissues later and many mishaps later, my emblem is done. But most of the day has wasted away. I have still accomplished nothing as a superhero.
Baymax is rocking this student thing. Before his next class, he starts doodling Jayne from Firefly. For never having drawn before, he's not bad at it! He even excels at that.
Finally ready to get my day started (in the late evening), I take a shower so I look my best as a superhero.
Baymax goes to rehearsal for me (no cameras allowed inside the studio). Everyone wishes Baymax would have been casted as Captain of the Guard instead of me for he is truly an amazing actor.
Still not ready to go out until I have properly accessorised. These comic book earrings do the trick. This is taking FOREVER.

Finally, I put on fake glasses to protect my identity. It's already 9pm. How much saving the world can I do by now?

There's No Other Choice (week 5)
This is another subject that I have
done tons of research on for anything persuasive. There is no correlation
between violent video games and violence in the every day. There is a rating on
the video games for a reason, though. And I think we should stick to it. That’s
a matter of parenting rather than anything, though. That’s my personal opinion.
This topic drains me because I’ve used it so often.
“Don’t
Hug Me I’m Scared” videos HORRIFY me and I LOVE them. The surprising, gory
twist on each one just causes me to laugh out of pure horror. There’s nothing
to do but laugh. It’s like there’s no other choice. A mentally sane person
cannot process those videos without laughing, regarless about whether or not
they actually found it humorous. It’s as if there is no other choice; it’s an involuntary
response.
10% of the World (week 4)
I was astounded by this news story.
More than 10% of the entire world check Facebook regularly. That seems outrageous.
In ten years, Facebook has snared 10% of the world into its mode of social
media. For this man to be put in a news story about the last 25 years and he
did just as much if not more than the other people mentioned in only 10? That’s
crazy. That’s beyond crazy. And I don’t see Facebook dying anytime soon,
either. My mother and my grandmother just got their own Facebooks. And they
keep introducing others to it, too. Actually, I think my great-grandmother has
one now.
As for
music videos this week, “NRG” by Duck Sauce was my favorite. This video was
introduced to me about a year ago and it still never fails to crack me up. And
it has a very extreme message about consumerism that I think is perfect satire.
“Nouveau Parfum” had a great message, as well. That video fascinated me.
How to: Shut a Girl Up (week 3)
I’ve done a lot of research on this for different classes –
research papers, speeches, brochures. This was a short and sweet video with all
of the information needed to make are really persuasive case. My two favorite
parts of this video is the fact that they added that boys can be affected by
this as well; and that children with mothers who don’t like their body tend to
not like their own. Everyone should be educated about the effects that media
can have on viewers.
My
favorite video from this week was Listening Man by A Band of Bees. This video
is just hilarious and accurate. The whole “I’m speechless” thing … and then
never shutting up? I myself have done that a few times. And the best way to
shut a girl up? A kiss. And then they walk off holding hands. Such an adorable
and hilarious music video.

Great Time for Makeup Artists (week 2)
I’ll start by speaking briefly
about the music videos we watched this week: The Dancing Pig terrified me
beyond measure and Take On Me is one of my FAVORITE music videos of ALL TIME.
It was kind of awesome to watch the progression on the music video – although,
I have to say, I like today’s music videos more than that horror story of a pig
one. We've come a long way and I hope we never, ever go back.
The article was really interesting.
I remember when there as a new station when we got the boxes for television. It
was like 15.2 or something like that. It had only played music videos for a
while: kind of as a tribute to MTV – or at least, what MTV was. And I really
did find myself tuning in and out. I really enjoyed the station but it wasn’t
something that I wanted to watch 24/7. Until then, I had always wondered what
happened to MTV. I really do thing the internet is more suited for music
videos. That new station on TV, by the way, is no longer a music video channel
anymore, either. It’s an “all black” channel. Which I find silly.
The craziest part of this article,
I find, is when it talks about the makeup artist. “’I once had a makeup person
send a list of airplanes they refused to fly on, the type of rental car that
had to be available and the acceptable size of their hotel room," says
Nigel Dick, who has directed clips for Guns N' Roses and Britney Spears, among
others.” I find it crazy and fairly rude when an actor or a singer have these
kind of demands. But for something to be so big that a makeup artist can make
these sort of demands as well? It must have been a great time to be a makeup
artist.

chose Monday for this project. I decided to do pick Monday because it is one of
my more eventful days. I figured me doing a bunch of different things would be
more interesting to read about than me sleeping all day – or working all day.
(I work all day Tuesday; catch up on sleep Thursday; don’t have work Friday;
and Wednesday is way too busy to keep up with.) So Monday it was. I listened to
music and messaged my boyfriend on Facebook (he doesn’t have a phone capable of
texting) all throughout the day. So those were really what I was “exposed” to
the most. I saw a lot of posters and attire that advertised a lot of things but
I have never really paid attention to that; or cared, really. So it was kind of
eye opening to see how much of that I was actually exposed to. I’m sure there
was a lot I overlooked, too. I was really only exposed to social media in order
to text my boyfriend – I’m sure I would have avoided it almost completely if he
could actually text. So that was interesting for me to notice. I only looked at
Facebook when prompted to by a notification. I think that’s saying something,
too. Would I have ever looked at Facebook if Facebook didn’t tell me to? Other
than social media, I’d say music was the next biggest thing. Ads were a pretty
big thing when listening to music on Spotify but I tended to block them out –
especially when they were being repeated over and over again. One thing I
wasn’t exposed to at all was TV. Which I find kind of funny. Here, I don’t have
TV or Netflix or anything. But at home, the TV was always on. So it’s
interesting to see how my consumption of media has changed just by being here
rather than at home. (word count: 320).

I never got the memo about writing an intro, so I'll do that now. (better late than never) My name is Alora; my pen name is Alora Nichole. I'm double majoring in English Writing and Theatre Performance. The reason I have a typewriter pictured is not just because I'm a writing major. It's also because I actually have an Underwood number 5 and it actually works. I have written a couple short stories on it. I like reading, turtles, and the color blue. The reason I took Intro to DMA rather than Intro to Theatre was because I was told I already knew everything in Intro to Theatre. My boyfriend is a DMA major (he's in LA right now with the program there) and he recommended this. It was also something I was really interested in, seeing as I would like to go into film with my acting career.

"The Rifle's Spiral" was something entirely different. If I had to choose, though, this one would be my favorite. I connected very well to this story. At first, even though I didn't quite understand it, I related to it, somehow. I realize that doesn't quite make sense. Anyway, as I began to understand the video, I made the connections as to why I related. First of all, the three men reminded me of the three fates from greek mythology. It was as if the girl was fighting against the fate that was being forced upon her. Fate says "as you grow older, you'll lose your beauty and innocence" the girl shook her head and told them differently.
