Necessary Art

I think the short answer to “Is art necessary for the Christian?” is: Absolutely. Personally, I tend to think that art is never just for arts sake; Eli Wiesel expressed a similar sentiment. If Christians wish to continue this separation of the artistic side of life I believe we lose one the most effective ways of reaching people. Art speaks to different people on incalculable different levels. It is becoming increasingly difficult to make something a not have a crowd see or witness it. I would also contend that it is our duty to create since creation very much mimics the heart of our creator. For example, how stories are developed I have begun to notice that all stories, in some way, resemble to mirror the grand story of the Bible. One website that has been a huge influence on me is Cinemagogue. The creator of this website aims to illuminate the subtleties of narrative as a whole. Pointing out that all narratives parallel the biblical stories and their themes. As well as seeking to show that our drive to create stories stems from our Creator, the master storyteller.
