I found the videos of the history of music videos that we watched in class to be fascinating. It's amazing to see what people thought was so incredibly entertaining to them then, can be boring or just plain scary today. It just proves that people have been enjoying watching people perform and expressing themselves through videos and music for many years. I also found it entertaining when we watched some of the most popular music videos. It was obvious to me as to why they became so popular. The artist knew exactly what to do to draw the audience's attention to the screen and be wonderfully entertained.
As for the article that we had to read this week, I found it very interesting how MTV has changed over the years. When the article mentioned that MTV was switching to original programming, I immediately thought about Youtube and how that is probably what killed MTV viewing music videos to keep their audiences. Instead of sitting there watching tv, sitting through all of the commercials, and hoping that a music video that you will like will come on soon, people are just looking up their favorite music videos on Youtube. Youtube only makes you wait a few seconds before viewing your favorite song with their video which makes it much more convenient and popular. I was very surprised, however, to hear that MySpace and AOL was where the music videos were going to. I don't know anyone who uses either of those sites to view their music videos. Everyone seems to be using Youtube, which is why I'm surprised that the article didn't talk a lot more about it. Either way, I'm very glad that we are able to have such readily access to amazing songs and videos.
