Consumerism and social media

I understand that there is people who get payed lots of money to find ways to lure consumers in to buy products.  I don't know if im just oblivious in recognizing it or I can just see through them.  i dont think i've ever came across an add or commercial that really made me think that "I gotta have it" mentality.  Seeing commercials of Lebron dunking is not going to make me think if i buy his shoes im going to be like him (im white, i have no hops).  Half the time i think i could come up with better advertising than some people with the stupid commercials ive seen.
Facebook, Twitter, and Netflix have came like wildflower and have dominated the media world, and continue to do so.  Each company is trying to keep up with the times to try and keep users, as well as draw new ones in.  The thing about social media is it comes and goes, after a while someones going to come up with the new Facebook and the old one is going to fade just like Myspace did. Its Social Darwinism.
