Digital Media Review #2

The video I am doing is Radioactive by Imagine Dragons. The video starts out with a girl walking down a lane, it's kind of gloomy outside, setting the mood for the video. Crows are cawing as she walks through the woods with a cage in her hand. The cage is covered by a blanket so you don't know what is in the box. You see the band behind bars as the instrumental starts. The girl sees a worn down shack and heads towards it.

The next scene shows a creepy, Mexican men throwing dolla bills and makin it rain. The girl enters with the cage as the men are surrounding something and betting on whatever is happening. The lighting is really dark in the shack and shady.

There is a King Pin who is smoking a cigar and blowing smoke rings as he sits at the head of the room. He is wearing a chain with a key around his neck that we can assume unlocks possibly the band who is still behind bars.

There is a chalk board on the wall showing that whatever is fighting, has won every match it has fought. It then shows a puppet monster catching the money that was thrown by the crowd. The video continues to show the champion beating the living day light out of the other puppets who looks less intimidating compared to the purple monster. The monster continues to beat up and is instructed by the King Pin to kill the other little puppets. Once the puppets lose, the King Pin pulls a lever that drops the losers down into the cage where the band is being held.

The girl then pulls the blanket off of the cage she has been carrying to reveal a pink teddy bear that looks innocent and harmless. The bear is then thrown into the ring with the big, purple, puppet monster. The cute, little teddy bear gets pounded. When it looks like all hope is lost, the pink bear summons magical powers and Superman punches the evil, purple monster in da face.

The purple monster is now dead and no one can't believe what they just saw. The King Pin, who is shocked at the victory, orders his men to jump in the pin and capture the teddy bear. The bear zaps the men with his laser eyes and disintegrates the men. There is panic as the crowd scrambles to escape the bear. The King Pin is crawling over the trap door in the pin. The girl pulls the key off of his neck and then the bear pulls the lever and drops him into the pit.

The girl takes the key and releases the band from the prison. She looks happy and the band looks relieved. They walk out of the jail and up a latter and you hear squeaking as they leave. The King Pin looks around with a scared look on his face as he hears the squeaking getting louder and coming towards him. The video ends with all of the defeated puppets coming in towards him and probably going to kill/eat him.

The meaning of the video is to portray being beaten over and over again and continuously getting up again. The whole point of being radioactive in the video is a play on the fact that in order to become stronger, you must change something inside of yourself to end up on top of the challenge. This was shown with the puppets in the video and how they were almost all defeated except for the one who everyone thought was useless but he showed the power of being radioactive.
