Digital Media Review #2

I decided to do my media review on Jake Miller's music video for First Flight Home. The music video opens up with a passport and the name "Jake Miller" and "First Flight Home" is stamped on a page. This first gives you the idea that whoever this video is based on, he/she is traveling. You also get the hint from the title that is presented that wherever the character is traveling, it is the first flight they could get to take back home.

The song starts and it shows an empty airport facing outside a window where an airplane awaits. This makes the watcher feel anticipation for whatever is to happen next. Then the scene switches to the awe inspiring Jake Miller sitting around luggage, looking like a Greek god, in a dark room. This almost seems like he is sitting under the plane where the luggage is stored. The scene switches to him putting his bags down in the now slightly full gate at the airport. We can assume now that Jake Miller is the main character in all of his attractiveness.

Jake, the definition of perfection, continues to sing about missing someone from back home and how it's been a while since he has been back. We are now introduced to more characters as the video continues. There is a little girl who is sitting alone at the gate, Jake, with a heart of gold, turns and smiles a heart skipping smile at the girl to reassure her that she will be home soon because they are on the first flight home. This makes the audience feel sad for the little girl because she's by herself and looks really lonely. But Jake comes in, like an angle sent from the Lord above, to give her and the audience hope.  

The video continues to the gorgeous Jake sitting by himself, in first class might I add, waiting for take off. As the video continues, we are introduced to another character, he is a solider who is also on the flight. A woman is also seen on her lap top, not really paying attention to what is going on around her. This makes me think that she is messaging someone who she misses as well. 

The plane finally takes off and we see the little girl playing with her Teddy bear and looking excited. Time passes as the plane is in the air and we soon see it land. We see all of the characters that were introduced walking off of the plane. This seems to still have some anticipation because they have finally landed and are so close yet have not found the ones they have been missing for so long.

You see the characters one by one run to their loved ones who are waiting for them in the airport. You feel so happy and excited for these characters because you know that this is the moment they have been waiting for this whole time and they look so relieved to be back except for our amazing and talented main character who leaves in his car. 

We see him drive to a house where he gets out and a girl runs out to him and they embrace. This is who he has been missing for so long and who he is singing the song about. You feel as complete and happy and probably slightly jealous as the two embrace. And when I say slightly, I am referring to the rage of a thousand fiery suns. The lighting is bright, making the mood seem light and the camera is following the character as he moves to his final destination.  

The video ends with flashing between all of the characters embracing their loved ones and the ones they have been missing for so long and the most beautiful man on the planet singing with the luggage surrounding him. The trip is complete and they have finally finished their flight home.
