(Elijah Robinson) Art and the Church

I get increasingly frustrated with the view of some churches that "catchy" or even "talented" music and musicians are "of the Devil". Even that guitar music of any kind whether it be amped or acoustic is Satan's music. This is the same for most all art, their point is that once you come to see an art object for a good purpose and become interested and attracted by that creation it becomes evil. Yet, such things as musical instruments are never mentioned in the bible as being negative.

I can actually see a little of where the Churches biggest beef with art comes from. In Matthew, he says "If your right hand causes you to Sin, cut it off and throw it away." Well that all fine and good I suppose, but is he really suggesting that after a being born into sin this quintillion amputee has the right idea. In a way he is, but with the art is just seeing it or listening to it wrong. I don't think so. What the issue is to them is what happens after seeing and hearing, the ideas are formed, the word is spread, and everyone believes right. No! If after reading Harry Potter and looking at an MC Escher drawing makes you believe in the absolute existence of all articles presented, you must think the moon is made of cheese.
