The media's impact on children

The impact that media has on what the body should look like is a huge topic these days. I believe the media plays a huge role in how people feel about themselves, maybe too big a role. It’s true, actors are pushed to look better than normal, but really, it’s abnormal. Perfect blue eyes, eight packs, the right height, less than normal weight, and the perfect hair. These characteristics are just not normal for everyone. I believe that being what you are is the most beautiful characteristic. And I think it is awful that children are evening thinking they aren’t “perfect” in “society’s” eyes. These are children. That should be the farthest thing from their minds. But sadly, the media as gotten to them, and that is just sad. Everyone, especially children, should be able to watch their favorite TV shows and not feel bad about their bodies. The fact that a majority of girls have a Facebook just to “make themselves cooler” saddens me. I believe the “coolest” people out there are the people who believe in themselves and don’t care what other people think about them. People who are creative and are able to contribute awesome ideas to society. No one should ever judge someone else’s abilities by how they look. People should judge on their abilities to create. I think that is something that should be promoted through media, not how a person should look.
