Wednesday we saw the different traits in people expressed through music videos. I think this technique works very well, it doesnt just come out and say who the person is or what their like. When expressed with music it gives the viewer all sorts of hints, but it is up to them in how they interpret it.
Reading the effect that media has on kids is nothing that hasnt been a problem for a long time, but with excessive amount of media that portrays what a perfect person should look/act like makes it all the more troubling for a person trying to fit in. I like to think that I am my own person, and I could really care less what people really think of me, but lets be real. I think high school was my hardest transition to trying to fit in, freshman year I made sure I had the name brand clothes, spent way to much on shoes, and changed my personality around different groups of people. Going to a small school made it a lot easier, because we grew up with each other so it wasnt to hard to fit in. After freshman year if I wanted to look good I would, if not I didnt, simple as that.
I know younger kids especially girls have a harder time with this, I mean you have Barbies, movie stars, and Victoria Secret Angels, paving the way for what we should strive to look like. Now I dont know if this is because im a guy or it has to do with my faith, but I hate seeing people dis of good looking individuals. Reading peoples tweets during the Victoria Secret fashion show infuriated me, people bashing them because their "skinny". God blessed them with a good looking body, and they work hard to keep their body healthy, who cares! if you have no desire to look that way then you dont have to worry about it, so dont bash others. Or if you want to lose weight and look better, then
do it! maybe this is the athlete coming out of me, but if you want something, you gotta put in the work. No one said it was going to be easy, because its not, it sucks, but if you want to be the best you gotta train like your second.
So theres my little rant about that, do I believe that media shapes the way people see each other, yes, but you have your brain, think for yourself and dont let the way other people look like make you think you have to be "Just like them".
