Not knowing anything about DMA or film, I can say that I have never actually watched a music video and then broke it down to analyze what they are actually trying to get across. Watching some of the videos last week I was thinking, "what the heck is this stuff" but after listening to how other people were analyzing them, it made so much more sense. I liked the diversity of the videos we watched, and the different ways they used to get the plot across to the viewers.
The Joel Trussell interview was pretty eye opening. Not being an artist or designer, I was able to see how Joel thought of his own work and the amount critiquing he does on it. He talked about his fear of disappointing himself and not being good enough. He definitely has his own way of doing things, and that is what makes him unique. He is afraid that one day all his talent and ability is going to just disappear one day.
Joel's life almost seems like an underdog story. He went to college wanting to go into animation but there wasn't a lot of options. He dropped out of graphic design and drawing, and then kinda went out on his own. He was able to get some smaller roles, for little money and no recognition. He was finally able to get his big break, and his career took off like wildfire. He was getting offers from everywhere, including Disney. Joel remains doing the things he loves, and in his own way, because that's the best kind of career you can have; doing what you love everyday
