Just to start off, it's crazy to think that preschoolers are already thinking about body image, and that studies are showing that this is for sure something going on. The statistics show that 41% of teen girls use social media to make themselves look cooler. If I was a girl, then I would for sure be included in this percentile. I often find myself using social media to gain some sort of affirmation about an issue, or to get people to compliment me. When I post a selfie on Instagram, I check my profile every 3 minutes looking to see if I got more likes. To me, nothing feels better than people liking my own photos. Narcissistic, probably.
This video goes to show us the importance and ever growing popularity of the social media platform. I find it important to start treating each of these platforms as its own "channel" lets say, and be cautious of what is being marketed and shown off. Kids are easily swayed and convinced, so body image is just another " Santa Claus is real" instance, to me at least.
